Floyd Mayweather v. Victor Ortiz - The Outcome

A lot of emotions went through the minds of boxing fans everywhere once Victor Ortiz hit the mat on Saturday, September 17.  After a headbutt by Ortiz, that looked intentional but he says wasn’t, the match was temporarily stopped by referee Joe Cortez to deduct a point from him.  Ortiz then apologized to Floyd Mayweather and they touched gloves, representing continuation of the fight.  Cortez also gave the signal to fight on, but while he was looking at the clock manager to make sure the clock would start, Mayweather punched Ortiz when he was clearly unprepared and landed another punch to the jaw of Ortiz sending him down.  A lot of questions surrounded the fight after it was over.  Did Mayweather win with cheap shots, or was it Ortiz’s fault for not protecting himself?  The rule of every fight is to keep your hands up and protect yourself at all times.  I couldn’t find a video of the knockout, but if you are lucky enough to find a video not taken down by HBO, watch it and decide for yourself. 

- The way Mayweather won the bout stirs conflict between boxing fans.  Was he wrong for taking advantage at Ortiz’s unblocked chin or was he smart for being alert? A lot of people also condemned the referee for not paying as much attention as he should have because during the knockout punches, he wasn’t looking.

- This was a fight between two of boxing’s biggest names.  Floyd Mayweather is basically a household name not just in boxing, but in all of sports and Victor Ortiz already holds one of the best knockout ratios in the history of boxing. 

- The fight was just last weekend on the 17th and is still raising a bit of controversy not just in the boxing world but in all sports.

- There is also an emotional aspect for fans of Ortiz and Mayweather.  This fight will make people hate Mayweather forever and fans of Ortiz will feel like he was cheated, and also hate Mayweather forever, and a lot of people already hate Mayweather.  Did I mention people will hate Mayweather forever?
